An increasingly common sight in cocktail bars around the world
Espresso Martini – A cocktail that has exploded in popularity. Bartenders, baristas and film stars can't resist it.

Espresso Martini isn't just a drink, it's an icon. It has quickly become a favourite on cocktail menus around the world, especially among those who love to combine coffee with an evening drink. With its rich flavour and elegant appearance, it has captured both hearts and taste buds in bars and restaurants.

In recent years, its popularity has truly exploded, and it has become a must-have at everything from festive events to exclusive cocktail bars.

But how did this trend actually start?

The History Behind the Espresso Martini
The Espresso Martini was invented in the 1980s by British bartender Dick Bradsell. According to legend, the drink was created when a young woman, rumoured to be a future supermodel, walked into a bar in London and asked for something that would "wake her up and then put her in a good mood". The result? A perfect balance of espresso, vodka and coffee liqueur – a sophisticated cocktail born out of simplicity but with a luxurious twist. The original version was called "Vodka Espresso", but it was later renamed Espresso Martini due to the increasingly popular way of presenting it among baristas and bartenders: namely, in a classic martini glass.

Caffeine is one of the secrets behind the popularity of the Espresso Martini
Coffee not only adds flavour to this divine drink, but also energy. During late nights at clubs and bars, the Espresso Martini has become a way for guests to keep dancing through the night, thanks to the stimulating effect of caffeine. Another important detail is the foam that adorns the top of the drink. The foam is created by the bartender shaking the mixture vigorously before serving – this gives the drink its signature appearance and velvety texture.

Celebrities who love Espresso Martinis
Espresso Martinis have been seen in the hands of many celebrities and film stars. Supermodel Naomi Campbell is a well-known fan of the drink, and both George Clooney and Kate Moss have been photographed with an Espresso Martini in their hands at exclusive parties. It has even appeared in scenes in television series and films, further cementing its status as a trendy and iconic cocktail.
