Coffee

Brewed coffee: This is the most common method of preparing coffee in many countries. It usually involves using a coffee maker where water is heated and drips through the ground coffee into a jug.

Espresso: This is the basis for many Italian coffee drinks. Espresso is prepared using an espresso machine that presses hot water through finely ground coffee under high pressure. Cappuccino: Consists of one part espresso, one part steamed milk and one part milk foam. Latte: An espresso mixed with steamed milk. Often topped with a small amount of milk foam. Moka: Prepared with a moka pot, also known as a "stovetop espresso maker". It creates pressure when the water is heated, which forces the water through the coffee. French press: Ground coffee is mixed with hot water and left to stand for a few minutes before pressing down the coffee grounds with a plunger. Aeropress: A manual coffee maker that uses air pressure to force water through the coffee. Produces a clean and flavourful coffee. Cold brew coffee: Ground coffee is steeped in cold water for several hours (often overnight) and then filtered. This produces a smoother, less acidic coffee.

Different forms of coffee: Coffee is sold in many forms, ranging from raw beans to finished products. Green coffee refers to untreated green coffee beans that have not yet been roasted. Whole roasted beans are what most people think of when they buy coffee, and they are usually ground just before brewing for the best flavour. Ground coffee is roasted beans that are already ground, ready to be brewed. Capsules have become increasingly popular and are used in special machines that create a simple cup of coffee or espresso. Instant coffee or soluble coffee is a dry extract of brewed coffee and can be quickly mixed with hot water for an instant cup.
